It’s The Ships That Matter In Science Fiction
One of my favorite things about Science Fiction is the technology of space travel. I am partial to the Starships of Star Trek. So, in my spare time, I design and model my own ships. Some are based on the Star Trek design and some are not. Her’s a few pics of some of my designs…
I call this one the Global Class Starship…

…and this one is the Federation II Class Starship.
I’ll put up a few more pics later. I don’t want you to have to wait for too many pics to load at one time.
For now……….ENGAGE!
Your Clone—Family Or Pet…
Clones. A real possibility or not? I’m not talking about cloned sheep here. Let’s entertain the idea that human clones are, without a doubt, a reality. You could go have a clone made as soon as you get through reading this post. How would you handle having a clone?
Would you…send your clone to work for you while you stayed home and took it easy?
Would you…allow your clone to be experimented on in the hopes that a cure could one day be found for a genetic disease you may one day suffer from?
OR…
Would you…let your clone develop his or her own unique friends and interests?
Would you…be able to handle your clone leading his or her own separate life?
True, your clone would be your exact genetic duplicate down to the quantum cellular level. But they would be able to develop their own unique lives. Personalities, likes and dislikes, career paths and hobbies, relationships and even have their own family separate from yours.
Would you treat then like a family member you truly cared for, or more like a pet to do your bidding?
The ultimate truth is…clones are people too!
“Human” Is A Dirty Word…
You know the old saying, “I’m only human.” I used to say human is a dirty word. But let’s put a Science Fiction twist to that. What if you didn’t have to be human? What if you could choose to become something else anytime you wanted then be human again when you chose?
I gave that some thought myself and in the end, the decision wasn’t hard at all.
Maybe a Klingon or Vulcan from Star Trek. A mutant like one of the X-Men might be pretty cool. Possibly Stargate SG-1’s Goa’uld or Jaffa. How about one of those energy-only aliens from the 1956 Sci-Fi classic Forbidden Planet?
Here’s what I came up with:
1) The Klingons have bad teeth, bad breath and those names…
2) The Vulcans are way, way too serious and full of themselves, not to mention most of them wear dresses…
3) The X-Men. Yeah, they’re cool with all those powers, uniforms and the X-Plane. But somebody’s always trying to get rid of them. I don’t need that…
4) The Goa’uld …a life-sucking worm with fangs? I think not!
5) The Jaffa are nurseries to those life-sucking worms. No thank you.
6) The Energy alien from Forbidden Planet…there would be some cool things you could do if you were nothing but energy. But what about all the things you couldn’t do?
Ya know, all in all, the word “human” doesn’t seem like such a dirty word anymore. I’m happy being just the way I am.
Not Enough Science Fiction On Sci-Fi…
The Sci-Fi channel is, naturally, one of my favorite TV channels. But, I have a bone to pick with them…
There’s way, way too much on Sci-Fi that isn’t actually Science Fiction. Let’s face it. A movie about a monster eating an entire town of people falls more into the realm of Horror than Science Fiction. Oh, and let’s not forget about all the Fantasy that shows up.
I know some will argue that the genre is Sci-Fi/Fantasy…and that’s o.k. if you are a fan of Fantasy. But, for those of us that are hard core Science Fiction, I say the channel should show strictly Science Fiction. Why not have new channels, i.e The Horror Channel, and The Fantasy Channel?
I can see it now. The greats (or Grand Masters) of Science Fiction like Isaac Asimov, Jack Williamson, Robert Heinlein–just to name a few–would throw up every other time they turned on the Sci-Fi channel and saw all the non-Science Fiction.
I know it makes me sick!
